Macedonians Decisive: Against Importing Labor!

In this survey, we decided to ask citizens, 'Should Macedonia import foreign workers?'

Whether Macedonia should import workers depends on various factors and the country's needs. Economic, demographic, and social circumstances can influence the need for importing workers.

The need for importing workers may arise in situations where the rate of emigration of young and educated people from the country is high, which can lead to demographic problems and a decrease in the workforce.

However, social and legal aspects of this question should also be taken into account, as well as the need for adequate regulation and protection of workers' rights, whether they are from the country or abroad.

We conducted a survey on this topic, asking citizens: 'Should Macedonia import workers?' In total, 1160 respondents participated. Here are the results:

  • 2% of respondents answered that it is necessary for certain professions.
  • 6% or 73 of the surveyed respondents answered: Yes. Sooner rather than later.
  • 9% of respondents to the question 'Should Macedonia import foreign workers?' expressed their opinion with the answer: No. If they are imported, it will change the population structure.
  • The majority - 82% or 951 of the respondents answered that Macedonia should NOT import foreign workers. Let them raise the salaries; domestic workers will work. Comments following this sentiment include: 'Salaries are motivation for the young and professionalism from the employer,' 'In Macedonia, there is still enough qualified workforce from various branches. As long as there is, they can be actively involved and lead a decent life,' 'With a minimum wage of 600 euros, everyone would want to stay in Macedonia.'
